Jesus is the supreme and sufficient revelation and mediator of God’s grace for mankind. That is the theme and emphasis given from the writer of The Epistle to the Hebrews. This letter, written around 65 A.D., was addressed primarily to Jewish converts who were familiar with the Old Testament and were being tempted to convert to Judaism or to Judaize the Gospel. Confirmation of Jesus Christ, as Messiah, establishing the new covenant, along with practical applications, fills Hebrews with truth and encouragement to follow Him as Lord and Master.

       22   The Supremacy of Jesus Christ                                            

              Hebrews 1:1-14

“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being…” (Heb 1:3a). How does Jesus compare to God the Father? How does Jesus compare to the angels of Heaven? References made to Old Testament scripture confirm who Jesus was and is.

      29   The Glorious Humanity of Jesus Christ                              

              Hebrews 2:1-18

Only one person has ever been fully God and fully man – Jesus Christ, the Son. Why is it important that Jesus was both God and man? How has the humanity of Jesus created a connection with us who walk this earth?

      6      Jesus is Superior to Moses                                                     

              Hebrews 3:1 – Hebrews 4:13

Moses led the Israelites and was given the Law by God, but it was not a law of peace and rest. Jesus fulfilled the Law and brought in a New Covenant of love and forgiveness. Jesus was more than just a leader. He was the Messiah. We are called to not harden our hearts to Jesus as some hardened their hearts to Moses’ (and God’s) leading in the wilderness. Listen to God and find rest.

The MYF will attend Re•Gen 2025, July 3-7, at Malone University in Canton, Ohio. We will hear of their experience there as they lead our worship service.

     20     Jesus, the Great High Priest                                                   

              Hebrews 4:14 – Hebrews 5:10

In the Old Testament, the High Priest was the chief religious figure, acting as the mediator between God and the people. We no longer need to offer temporary sacrifices to God, since Jesus came to earth, lived as a man without sin, and gave himself up for our eternal redemption. There is no High Priest like Jesus.

     27   Warning Against Apostacy                                                      

              Hebrews 5:11 – Hebrews 6:20

We are called to grow in maturity in our faith. Jesus is the One who will lead us forward into full wisdom. Belief in Jesus Christ as Savior is the only way to salvation. Jesus is the anchor on which to base our faith. Do not be discouraged. Do not be led astray. His promises are trustworthy and certain.

      3      Jesus, High Priest of a Better Covenant                              

              Hebrews 7:1 – Hebrews 8:13

Melchizedek was king of Salem and an exalted high priest prior to Aaron and the Levitical priesthood. How did he provide a foreshadowing of Jesus as High Priest? What was still missing that Jesus provided for completion?

     10     Jesus, The Superior Sacrifice                                                 

              Hebrews 9:1 – Hebrews 10:18

The process of sacrifices being offered within the sanctuary were followed by the Jews and honored by God in the Old Testament. The sacrificial blood of Jesus set up a new sanctuary. How did Jesus’ spilt blood create a different request for interaction with God? What is now expected and asked of us?
 

     17     The Call to Faith                                                                       

              Hebrews 10:19 – Hebrews 11:40

We are called to be bold in our faith. How do we do that? What does it look like? Who served as models of faith in the Bible? Who serves as models of faith for us today? Where can we look to be encouraged in our faith walk?

      24   The Call to Endurance                                                              

              Hebrews 12:1-29

We are called to persevere and endure within our walk of faith. We are called to welcome instruction and discipline. We are called to not grow weary and not be shaken. How and where do we find strength to remain faithful through discouraging times?

     31     Final Exhortations                                                                   

              Hebrews 13:1-25

As a final summary of all that had been stated in previous chapters of Hebrews, we are encouraged to follow the teachings of Jesus. We are encouraged to keep our eyes focused upon Him and trust Him. His promises are true. We are to love others as He has loved us.
